each candlestick features a slender, tapering porcelain column rising from a circular spreading base, surmounted by a shallow drip pan and cylindrical candle socket. The white porcelain is decorated with colourful arrangements of pink roses, yellow blossoms, blue and purple flowers, and finely painted green foliage, delicately suspended from violet ribbon bows.

the floral decoration continues across the candle sockets, drip pans and circular bases, creating a harmonious and carefully balanced design. Fine gilded borders complement the porcelain, while decorative gilt metal bands, with beaded detailing at the column joints and a finely patterned border around each base, provide an elegant contrast.

the refined proportions, delicate polychrome painting and classical form reflect the french decorative traditions associated with sèvres porcelain and the louis xvi period.

both candlesticks bear underglaze blue decorative marks to their undersides.
