Reminiscent of the work of Charles Dudouyt, the substantial architectural frame is softened by gently rounded corners and raised on angular splayed feet, creating a sense of balance and visual lightness. The facade is distinguished by a series of deeply carved walnut panels, with an intrically patterned central panel providing a striking focal point. Above, the top features an unusual chessboard design, adding another layer of geometric detail and craftmanship.
The walnut has developed a rich, velvety patina over time, emphasising the grain, carved surfaces and sculptural quality of the cabinet. Monumental yet refined, this sideboard is a distinctive example of 1940s French design, bridging Art Deco craftmanship and early Brutalist aesthetics. See less
