This work is one of many Leslie Tillet did later in his life. Earlier in his career he made fabrics and patterns. He gained fame for his unique printing techniques and patterns as well as having Jackie Kennedy redo her bedroom at the Whitehouse with his fabrics and prints. Later he repurposed old silkscreens and created a large collection of sculptural acrylic work.

Tillet developed radical techniques to create the three dimensional sculptural details on his work. He encouraged viewers to touch his work and and explore the tactile qualities. Some of his works are thickly embossed, the painting can even be read by fingertips like braille. He held painting shows in his home studio for the blind and visually impaired.
