Lumière d’atelier is an original oil painting by French artist Sophie Dumont, created in 2025.
An easel and canvas occupy the left foreground, balanced by a rounded table and a vase with slender stems on the right. A blue-grey window brings light into the room. Simplified perspectives and interlocking planes give this recognisable studio interior a geometric structure with a Cubist influence.
Cream and ochre passages contrast with terracotta, burgundy, muted mauve and deeper tones. Successive layers of oil paint, worked with palette knife and brush, reveal scraped passages and traces of earlier colours, giving the surface depth and texture.
The unoccupied studio suggests the artist’s presence through the canvas, tools and objects gathered within it.
