Vintage signed Doan Rosa barro negro 13 inch figural statue of a woman carrying a water jug, excellent condition with no chips or chigger bites. 3.5 inches by 2.5 inches by 13 inches in height. Signed Dona Rosa, Oax, Mex on the side of the flare at base.
Historically, traditional barro negro clay fired to a dull, matte gray. In the 1950s, Doña Rosa discovered that by polishing the nearly dry clay with a quartz stone and firing it at a slightly lower temperature, the surface transformed into a brilliant, metallic black finish.
