This particular form is referred to as "demi-lune" which translated from Greek means half moon. In the American Federal period neo-classical architecture became prevalent in the country and the furniture made for these homes drew upon Ancient Greek and Roman designs and nomenclature for inspiration. The half round form of the table is intended so that the back edge can be placed along side a wall with the rounded front presented for display. It is common for these console tables to have a silver plater with a full tea service or drinking vessels present and for a large piece of art to be displayed on the wall above.

The most incredible feature of this table is the magnificent single board top. An entire plank of Santa Domingan mahogany was selected for its rare attributes including the highly prized grain which takes centuries of perfect rainforest conditions to create. This lumber, once properly harvested and finished, is considered by many to be the most beautiful wood in the entire world. The figured mahogany grain is spans the length of the tables apron with a lighter toned wood inlaid beneath it to create a wonderful contrast and accent line. The console is supported by four tapered legs and the entire table is in excellent overall condition having been well preserved for the past two centuries. These consoles are incredibly rare and we feel it would compliment nearly any interior especially a space with a white wall. The contrasting wall would certainly make the table stand out and show off all of its natural beauty and qualities.
This demi-lune console table measures 47" wide x 24" deep x 28 1/2" tall and has 23" of clearance height from beneath the apron to the floor. See less
