Langley's artistic background relate to a wide variety of interests. He is well versed in Color Field painting - in particular, work by Morris Louis, Sam Gilliam, and Gene Davis, as well as the abstraction from Mark Rothko, Richard Diebenkorn, Callum Innes among others.

This piece comes out of the more informal Painting A Day series. While these are more interested in scale, stroke, and surface, they also carry with them the concerns of the smaller artworks, mark-making, gesture and color. See less
