A John Widdicomb chest of drawers made in Grand Rapids, Michigan, around 1940. The case is veneered in bookmatched flame mahogany with inlaid accents, and it stands on slender turned legs below a scalloped apron. All four drawers keep their original brass oval pulls, and the John Widdicomb maker's mark is still inside a drawer.
The styling is Federal and Hepplewhite Revival, so it suits a traditional bedroom but also works as a handsome storage piece in a living room, entry or guest room.
The John Widdicomb Company was founded in Grand Rapids in 1897 and became one of the most respected American makers of fine traditional furniture.
Measures 38 inches wide, 19.5 inches deep and 43.5 inches tall.
