Under the feudal system, merchants and craftsmen stood above peasants and lived a life that allowed a few pleasures and self-indulgences such as simple jewelry. This ring is made to the standard enjoyed by men of that class, almost exclusively, town dwellers.
It is size 9 3/4 with an approximately 3.6mm band (small variances), nicely transversely ridged shoulders, and a large oval bezel. Wearing it would have distinguished the owner as a step above the peasant class, though his duties may have not differed from theirs significantly. An example would be a butcher.
The ring has a measured degree of a class designed to advise without offending which could bring dire consequences. It has been professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored. See the reference image which shows the process. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
