“In Sampigny-lès-Maranges at the beginning of the grape harvest, after the hot, dry, scorching summer.”

The inscription connects the piece to Sampigny-lès-Maranges, a small village in Burgundy’s Maranges winegrowing area, at the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune. It gives the jug a distinctive connection to French vineyard life and the seasonal grape harvest.

The jug stands approximately 14 inches tall. No discernible maker’s mark is present. It is in excellent overall condition, with no apparent chips, cracks, or repairs. Fine crazing is visible in the glaze. See less
