Measuring a compact 20” x 17” (excluding the fringe), this piece was originally handwoven as a decorative table cover, small tapestry, or commemorative souvenir during the early mid-century boom of Mexican folk art and tourism.

The textile features a striking tri-color vertical stripe layout mimicking the Mexican national flag (green, white, and red). The central panel showcases a wonderfully stylized, hand-woven Mexican national coat of arms depicting the traditional eagle perched on a nopal cactus devouring a snake.
