This is a matched pair of impressive antique cloisonné enamel stirrups, traditionally used for horseback riding and often collected as decorative objects. Each stirrup features a sturdy, arched gilt-bronze frame with a flat, oval footrest. The footrests are richly decorated in cloisonné enamel on a bright turquoise-blue ground, featuring intricate, multi-colored floral motifs and scrolling vine patterns in shades of red, green, yellow, and pink, centered around a pierced, gilt-bronze auspicious knot or coin motif. The upper section of each stirrup is cast with a detailed, stylized dragon head, and the sides are adorned with enameled blue panels featuring gilt scrollwork. The base of each footrest is finished with a classic geometric key-fret border in gilt bronze. The pieces exhibit a rich, aged patina with the enamel showing minor wear and the gilding displaying a warm luster.
