Designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1958 for A.P. Stolen, the AP41 Kastrup stool belongs to the celebrated Airport collection developed for Copenhagen's Kastrup Airport. This original vintage example represents a less frequently encountered model from Wegner's body of Danish modern furniture. The stool features an upholstered cushion supported by a slender chrome-plated steel frame, combining clean architectural lines with carefully considered proportions. Designed as the companion to the AP39 lounge chair, the two pieces are illustrated together in original A.P. Stolen manufacturer literature. The AP41 remains a distinctive example of Wegner's exploration of upholstered furniture and metal construction, offering collectors an opportunity to acquire an original production piece from this important period of Danish design.
*Please note this listing is for the stool only. A matching AP39 Kastrup stool is also available separately, offering the opportunity to acquire the original coordinating design.*
Hans J. Wegner was a Danish furniture designer and one of the central figures of the Danish Modern movement. Born in Tønder, Denmark, in 1914, he trained as a cabinetmaker before studying at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts. His early work included collaborations with architects Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller, followed by the establishment of his own design studio in 1943. Over the course of his career, Wegner designed more than 500 chairs, including the Wishbone Chair, the Round Chair, and the Peacock Chair. His work is distinguished by an understanding of materials, thoughtful construction, and an emphasis on comfort and function. While best known for his work in wood, Wegner also explored upholstered seating and metal frameworks, as seen in the AP39 and AP41 Kastrup designs for A.P. Stolen. Wegner's furniture remains an important part of Danish design history, with examples represented in major museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
