Set of necklace and brooch in gold, carved coconut and diamonds - Brazilian jewelry, 19th century. A traditional Brazilian goldsmithing set, composed of a necklace and brooch, executed in gold, carved coconut and diamonds. The necklace features a thin gold chain and an articulated front composition formed by a sequence of black carved coconut rosettes, each enriched with floral applications in gold and a central diamond. Suspended from the composition are five ovoid pendants, also in worked coconut, ornamented with bands, small elements and gold terminals. The contrast between the intense black of the organic material, the yellow of the gold and the brilliance of the diamonds gives the piece a particularly striking character. The brooch, conceived in the form of a stylized branch, has a carved coconut structure, punctuated by small gold applications. In the center, a rosette similar to those used in the necklace, with a gold flower and central diamond, is flanked by vegetal elements and leaves executed in gold. On the reverse it retains a gold spike and clasp system. The stones currently set are diamonds, added later by goldsmiths. According to available information, the original stones were "monas-novas," later replaced with diamonds to enhance the overall look. The set fits into the tradition of Brazilian jewelry that combines gold with sculpted dark organic materials, exploring chromatic contrast and a characteristic floral and vegetal decoration.
