A cheerful set of Norwegian demitasse spoons by J. Tostrup of Oslo, one of Norway's most respected goldsmith houses. Each spoon is gilt sterling silver with a tapering handle in guilloché enamel, laid in an overlapping scale or "harlequin" pattern.
The five colors are cobalt blue, burnt orange, black, soft spring green, and turquoise, a lovely mix for after-dinner espresso or a collector's cabinet. Each stem is stamped "STERLING J.TOSTRUP NORWAY" on the reverse. We believe they date to the mid-20th century.
Condition is honestly vintage, with wear and darkening to the gilding in places, especially inside the bowls, and enamel wear and small losses near where the handles meet the stems. Please see all photos, which are part of the description. Sold as a set of five, without box.
Each one is about 3¾ to 4 inches (9.5 to 10 cm) long. One spoon weighs roughly 7 to 10 grams.
The bowls on these spoons are small and shallow, usually about 3 to 4 mm deep and around 1.5 cm across, but that's my estimate from how demitasse spoons are made.
