The rich yellow finish gives this double-sided design a wonderfully warm presence, with an expressive face framed by a crown of individually incised rays. Small impressed flowers, carefully outlined eyes and a deep green nose bring personality to the rounded form. Across the surface, golden yellow shifts into ochre and olive, revealing the texture of the ceramic and the detail of its patterned pedestal. It is a piece that rewards a closer look, with as much interest in the surface as in the silhouette. This example retains its Rosenthal-Netter paper label and painted Italian mark beneath the base. We have not located another matching vintage example in this yellow colorway during our research, making the color a particularly compelling feature for a collector of Aldo Londi or Bitossi ceramics. Beautiful displayed on an open shelf or sideboard where both faces can be appreciated, this Italian mid-century sculpture brings color, warmth and a little wit to a room.
