A striking American Double Wedding Ring patchwork quilt dating to the 1930s–1940s, featuring a vibrant solid orange ground, colorful individually pieced fabric rings, and contrasting blue intersections.
The rings incorporate an extensive assortment of printed cotton fabrics in a wonderful variety of colors and patterns, characteristic of Depression-era quiltmaking. Particularly attractive is the reverse-scalloped edge, which follows the curves of the interlocking rings rather than the traditional outward scallop.
The quilt is entirely hand-pieced, with beautiful hand-quilting in repeating Baptist Fan patterns, especially visible on the reverse.
Measuring approximately 97” x 76”, this generously sized quilt works beautifully as a decorative bed covering, displayed over a quilt rack, or hung as textile wall art. Its remarkable orange background gives this traditional American pattern a bold, graphic quality that works equally well in historic and contemporary interiors.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition for its age, with no major rips or tears. One tiny patchwork section has localized fabric loss and stitch loss, exposing a small area of the original cotton batting, as photographed. Some natural fading toward both ends and minor age-related discoloration. The quilt remains structurally sound and beautifully presented.
Dimensions: Approximately 97” x 76”.
