Muted blue-green robes, fine gold-colored details, and architectural backgrounds are complemented by Chinese calligraphy panels above each figure.

Painted on the reverse side of the glass and viewed through the front, the portraits are housed in substantial carved wooden frames with floral scrollwork, geometric fretwork borders, and decorative brass hanging ornaments.

The frames coordinate closely but differ slightly in finish, with the male portrait’s frame displaying a deeper reddish-brown tone and the female portrait’s frame a warmer amber-brown. Both feature interlocking wood joinery and paneled wooden backs. Exact age and maker are unknown.

Sold together as a coordinating pair.

Each measures approximately 21.6 inches wide × 1.2 inches deep × 41.4 inches high, including the brass hanging ornaments. Frame height alone is 39.4 inches. See less
