This exceptional 19th-century French armoire wardrobe is executed in the elegant Louis XVI Neoclassical style. The piece showcases remarkable woodworking artistry, featuring a large central door set with an expansive oval mirror framed by a carved, beaded gilt trim border. Flanking panels display book-matched mahogany and walnut veneers arranged in dynamic herringbone chevron patterns.
The wardrobe is richly detailed with fine wood marquetry, highlighted by two large oval inlays depicting traditional classical urns bursting with detailed botanical rose bouquets. The structure is accented by heavy, elaborate ormolu mounts, including scrolling acanthus leaf corner brackets, classical foliate keyhole escutcheons, and ribbed lower leg mounts.
Knockdown Construction & Assembly:
A brilliant feature of this substantial piece is its traditional European "knockdown" or "take-apart" design. The entire armoire dismantles completely into individual flat panels, sections, and base components, fitting back together modularly like building blocks. This interlocking setup makes an otherwise massive architectural wardrobe incredibly easy to transport, navigate through narrow hallways, and move up tight staircases before being reassembled in your desired room.

The interlocking joints and knockdown hardware are fully intact and functional. The exterior wood veneers are well-preserved with a deep, lustrous finish, displaying typical fine age crazing to the clear coat, minor superficial scratches, and small scuffs from handling. The heavy cast ormolu brass hardware pieces are securely attached and retain an excellent, authentic aged golden patina. The central oval mirror glass is clear and free of major clouding or cracks. less
