Up for sale is a beautiful piece of Southeast Asian theatrical history: an authentic, hand-carved vintage Indonesian Wayang Golek rod puppet dating to the 1980s. Originating from Java, this three-dimensional wooden puppet stands an impressive 23 inches tall when resting on its custom wooden display base. It features highly detailed hand-painted features, an ornate royal headdress, and a flowing purple batik garment trimmed with fringe tassels and gold sequins.

The articulated joints and arms are operated smoothly using the two attached wooden guide rods. Complete with its original display stand, this makes a striking centerpiece for any collection of world culture artifacts, antique theater memorabilia, or global folk art. Excellent structural condition with a light, authentic aged patina. Please see photos for close-up details of the craftsmanship.
