A cluster of vermilion, orange, slate blue and olive shapes dances at the center of a cream ground, with black accents and scratched lines adding rhythm. The overlapping forms feel like a crowd in motion.
At 24 inches square it fits a console, a bookshelf wall or a gallery grouping. The warm center and blue edges pair well with cream, wood and denim textiles.
Acrylic on Canvas, 24 x 24 x 1.5 in (61.0 × 61.0 × 3.8 cm). Unframed, with painted edges.
Lee Cox works in acrylic and collage on gallery-wrapped canvas, adding and removing layers intuitively until torn and cut shapes, scratched pencil lines and flat fields of color settle into balance. Edges are painted and the work hangs without a frame, ready for the wall.
Lee Cox is a contemporary abstract artist based in Carmel, California. After a 35-year career in telecommunications, he moved from lifelong collector of abstract art to dedicated studio painter. His practice is rooted in memory and impression, each painting a layered meditation on a moment, emotion or lived experience. Working in acrylic and collage without a fixed plan, he builds depth and texture through intuitive addition and subtraction, guided by memory and music, until the emotional truth of the moment feels realized. His titles offer context while leaving room for interpretation. His work has been exhibited in solo and juried group shows across California and nationally, and is held in private collections throughout the United States.
