This is a striking vintage bronze head sculpture featuring a dual-faced design, a classic representation of the concept of "a single moment" (or "in a single thought") in Buddhist philosophy, symbolizing the coexistence of serenity and wrath, or the instantaneous nature of enlightenment.
One side of the face displays a serene, peaceful expression with downcast eyes, a gentle smile, and the traditional blue curled hair (ushnisha) of a Buddha. The other side reveals a fierce, wrathful countenance with bulging eyes, exposed fangs, and flaming red hair, representing the protective and transformative power of the deity. The surface shows remnants of original gilding and painted polychrome details in blue and red, adding depth and character to the piece.
The base bears a recessed, square seal mark reading “乾隆年製” (Qianlong Nian Zhi). The back of the head is hollow, typical of traditional casting techniques. This is a powerful and contemplative piece, perfect for a collector of Asian antiques or as a unique, symbolic accent in a curated interior.
