Striking 1950s Venetian wall sconce crafted in polychrome glazed ceramic, depicting a theatrical sailor figure. Made in Venice, the piece combines sculptural modeling, vivid colors and decorative lighting in a highly expressive Mid-Century Italian style.
The figure is shown in a dynamic pose, wearing a white sailor uniform with a dark blue collar, red and white striped shirt, white cap and gilt decorative details. One hand holds a gilded bottle, while the other supports a white glass globe, turning the object into both a functional wall light and a sculptural decorative figure.
The glossy polychrome ceramic surface enhances the dramatic character of the piece, with hand-painted details and strong color contrasts. The expressive face, elongated body and lively posture give the sconce a playful yet refined presence, typical of certain Venetian decorative ceramic productions from the 1950s. Comparable polychrome glazed ceramic figures were also produced by artists such as Otello Rosa for the same manufactory.
Stamped and signed on the reverse.
