This is a grand-scale, authentic vintage segmented maple wood art vessel by the internationally celebrated fine craft sculptor Joel Hunnicutt. Masterfully constructed using advanced geometric multi-piece joinery, this striking three-dimensional sculpture beautifully achieves the artist's definitive goal: giving the organic, tactile medium of wood the weightless transparency and luminous brilliance of hand-blown glass.
Rather than traditional hollow turning, Hunnicutt utilizes complex segmented block construction as his primary design tool. Dozens of individually cut, high-contrast maple segments are assembled into a raw block mosaic before being turned on a high-speed lathe until a fluid, tapering teardrop profile emerges. The defining highlight is the brilliant, rhythmic use of open negative space windows that pierce the vessel walls, creating shifting plays of light and shadow under ambient room illumination.
Hand-signed by the artist on the base, this original fine craft asset features a highly reflective clear lacquer finish. It arrives completely pristine and ready to serve as a high-character architectural anchor for a mid-century mantel, an executive desk pavilion, or a clean, minimalist contemporary entryway console.
