This early 20th century stacking flat file cabinet is built of quartersawn oak in its original dark finish, with 42 … Read more This early 20th century stacking flat file cabinet is built of quartersawn oak in its original dark finish, with 42 drawers across four modular sections, an top cap, and a tapered-leg base. The entire cabinet can be broken apart into a top, base, and 4 drawer sections, making lifting and placement easier. Decorative brass bands are present as well as brass door pulls. The differing tarnish levels on the drawer pulls indicates which drawers saw regular use and which sat unused.

One drawer contains an old paper remnant which reads “Old Germania Policy Nos 6035 and 6036 files away in files by stairs" tying the cabinet to the Germania Life Insurance Company of New York, which renamed itself Guardian Life in 1918.

The Globe-Wernicke stencil has worn off, but this cabinet matches known Globe-Wernicke models exactly in form and construction. Additionally, it has a GW handwritten on the underside of the top piece.

At 66" tall and 41.5" wide, it’s perfectly sized for a home office, studio, or library, and it works well for practical and decorative usage. See less
