A remarkable vintage Thai folk-art wall mask, distinguished by a boldly expressive primate-like face crowned by a dramatically rising cobra.
Hand-carved in richly toned wood, the mask features broad geometric ears, oversized circular eyes, deeply sculpted brows, and a broad, tooth-filled smile. The unusual serpent headdress rises prominently from the forehead, its hood, scales, and segmented body individually detailed to create a compelling sculptural centerpiece.
A warm palette of natural amber-brown wood, deep charcoal, and muted reddish tones enhances the dimensional carving, while a gently time-worn finish provides visual depth and character.
Believed to date from approximately the 1950s–1970s and attributed to Thailand, the mask reflects the expressive craftsmanship of vintage Southeast Asian decorative folk art.
Its exaggerated facial features and unusual animal imagery make it particularly appealing for a thoughtfully collected interior. Equally compelling displayed individually or incorporated into an eclectic gallery wall, the piece offers rich texture and distinctive sculptural presence.
