In this large abstract painting in mixed media on canvas by French-American artist Christiane Corcelle, a looping, ribbon-like path of dusty blue winds across a ground of sage green, cream and blush, like the board of a game seen from above. Small red, orange and black marks sit along the route like pieces waiting for their next turn. Scraped paint, drips and pencil lines keep the surface lively and slightly unpredictable, in keeping with the playful French title.
Soft in palette but full of movement, Jeu de l'Oie suits a living room, dining area or studio wall where the eye can follow the winding line. The muted greens and pinks pair well with natural textures, plaster tones and vintage furniture. This piece will be carefully packed for safe shipping.
Medium: Mixed media on canvas, 2025. Dimensions (height x width x depth): 48 × 36 × 1 1/2 in.
Like much of Corcelle's work, the surface is built up in layers of paint, collaged paper, graphite and scratched lines, so the painting reads one way from across the room and another up close. Expect small discoveries of texture, handwriting and color the longer you look, which makes it a work that keeps rewarding everyday viewing.
Christiane Corcelle is a French-American mixed media artist based in Massachusetts. Her intuitive, layered practice spans painting, printmaking, collage, and de-collage, building richly textured surfaces that invite close exploration. Guided by curiosity and openness to process, she transforms color, shape, and found materials into works that are both dynamic and contemplative.
Drawing inspiration from global experiences and cultural textures, Corcelle has exhibited widely across the United States and internationally, including shows in France, Vietnam, China, Cuba, Peru, and Azerbaijan. Her work is represented in public and private collections worldwide, among them the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), the Boston Public Library, the Art Complex Museum, the Contemporary Art Center, the Vietnam Fine Arts Association in Hanoi, the Danang Fine Arts Museum, the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, Universidade Feevale in Brazil, Las Casas de las Américas in Cuba, and the Permanent Collection of Château d’Orquevaux in Orquevaux, France.
She also designed 60 Years of North American Prints, the Boston Printmakers’ award-winning publication.
