Meticulously crafted from white marble and heavily chiseled bronze. these column-form candlesticks showcase the peak of 18th century French neoclassicism. Each feature a beautifully balanced architectural form wrapped in elegantly chased bronze drapery festoons, detailed with pristine acanthus leaf banding. and punctuated by fine beaded (grenetis) rims.
The pair is a highly collectible find for a connoisseur due to its untouched structural integrity and confirmed historical hallmarks located on the hand-lathed undersides.
Both bases are struck in identical positions with a historical French Crowned "C" tax poincon - see images. This specific legal hallmark was hammered into copper alloys in France between 1745 -1749 to certify state taxation, guaranteeing the 18th-century origins of the workshop castings. Each feature a peened (hot-forged) tie-rod assembly inside the circular bases. The central iron support cores have been mushroomed and beaten by hand into recessed brass seat rather than utilizing uniform 19th-century machine threads, proving pre-industrial, bench-crafted assembly.
