Having graduated from the stockholm university of arts, crafts and design (konstfack) in 1961, this piece represents an exciting and highly creative era in his early career.

the colors alternate between matte and glossy surfaces, creating different effects and giving the painting a changing character depending on the light and viewing angle. The black areas can appear grey in certain light, revealing subtle variations in the surface and creating an unusual sense of depth within the work.

while westberg-gren is deeply revered in northern sweden for his atmospheric maritime landscapes, "korall" showcases his mastery of abstract expressionism. The painting is defined by dramatic brushstrokes in a rich palette of deep earth browns, fiery coral reds, and industrial blacks.
