An elegant pair of French two-light wall sconces in the Louis XVI taste, made in Paris around the 1940s, in the spirit of the great decorating houses of the period such as Maison Baguès and Maison Jansen. The silvered metal frame rises from a sweeping flat-strap arm fixed to a central hub. It supports three tiers of scrolled branches, each dressed in faceted cut crystal balls, bead cascades and almond-shaped drops. Graceful festoons of crystal beads drape beneath the arms and catch the light beautifully. The candle cups sit on finely scalloped bobèches. At 50 cm (19.7 in) high, the pair has a generous scale and real presence on the wall. It is ideal flanking a mirror, a fireplace or a bed. The pair is matching, and the silvering shows a soft, even original patina. The pieces will be cleaned and rewired.
