This free-standing table mirror takes the form of a sunflower, handmade in welded copper and brass by the French artist Jean Vinay (1907–1978). The round plate sits in a beaded brass bezel inside a full ring of copper petals, each one cut and curved separately. A slender brass stem holds the head at a tilt and carries three pairs of oval leaves, graduated in size, above a plain round foot. The copper has darkened to brown, while the brass stem, leaves and base keep a warmer gilt tone. The back is closed in black felt. It works as a vanity mirror, though it reads first as a small tabletop sculpture. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
