Red and yellow blooms, punctuated with blue, fill a white pitcher against a cool mauve ground. The paint is laid on in thick, textured impasto with quick, loaded strokes, and the color is pitched well beyond nature, which is why critics of his day placed Badoisel between Fauvism and Expressionism.

Born in Brittany and settled in Anjou, Badoisel painted flowers for some fifty years in oil, pastel, and watercolor. He showed at the Paris salons from the 1950s, among them Peintres Témoins de leur Temps at the Musée Galliera, held more than sixty solo exhibitions, and was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 1985. The painting comes in a vintage frame, possibly its original. Two small areas of unstable paint have been professionally restored.

The painting measures 55 × 38 cm (21.7 × 15.0 in) unframed and 61 × 45 cm (24 × 17.7 in) framed. This piece has an attribution mark,
