This charming antique gilt bronze figurine depicts a standing dog, a traditional symbol of loyalty, protection, and good fortune. The animal is finely cast in a dynamic, alert posture with its head slightly raised, featuring a smooth, muscular body, a curled tail, and a simple collar around its neck. The bronze exhibits a rich, dark patina with extensive remnants of original gilding and a striking splatter of reddish pigment (cinnabar) scattered across its body, giving it a distinguished, antique character. This sculpture is a striking example of traditional metalwork and makes a distinguished decorative accent for a desk, shelf, or collection.
