A wonderfully expressive original portrait by Portland artist Albert “Al” Seneres (1937–2024), painted in spring 2005.
This colorful figurative work depicts a contemplative figure wearing a vivid red cap against a richly layered blue background. Energetic brushwork, exaggerated features, and unexpected combinations of color give the painting a distinctive character, blending expressionism with an almost folk-art sensibility.
The subject’s thoughtful expression contrasts beautifully with the painting’s bold palette and spontaneous execution. Rather than a conventional portrait, Seneres captures personality and emotion through color, movement, and painterly abstraction.
About the Artist
Albert “Al” Seneres studied at Cooper Union and the School of Visual Arts in New York before pursuing his artistic career in California and later Portland, Oregon.
His work encompasses expressive portraits, landscapes, animals, and imaginative compositions, often incorporating symbolic imagery and vibrant color.
Provenance
Acquired directly from the artist’s estate. This painting is part of a small, personally curated collection of original Seneres works offered by Kerby Curates.
