Authentic Eastern & Oriental Express Luxury Train Heavy Glass Dining Car Ashtray — Pristine Condition
Up for sale is a rare, investment-grade piece of luxury rail history: an authentic, heavy clear-glass onboard ashtray sourced directly from the active dining carriages of the world-famous Eastern & Oriental Express (E&O) luxury train line.
Unlike lighter souvenir gift-shop pieces, this heavily weighted round glass variant was engineered specifically for active service. It sat directly on the crisp linen tablecloths of the train's legendary dining cars (Malaya and L'Oriental) during its iconic journeys through Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Design & Features:
Central Emblem: Features the official cursive "E&O" monogram cleanly debossed and molded into the center of the base, beautifully framed by classical floral scroll accents. Because the logo is integrated directly into the pressed glass structure rather than etched or frosted onto the surface, it has zero paint or texture wear.
Heavyweight Build: Crafted from exceptionally thick, high-clarity clear glass, weight 334g. The heft was a deliberate design choice to prevent the dish from sliding or tipping as the train navigated winding tropical rail routes.
Functional Details: Styled with four smoothly pressed cigarette rests along the chunky rim, surrounded by a textured, dimpled ash-catching internal ring.
Dimensions: Measures exactly 4.25 inches in diameter and 1.25 inches in height.
Collector’s Appeal: With indoor smoking no longer permitted aboard the train, this flawless piece makes an exquisite luxury desk organizer, paperweight, jewelry catchall, or centerpiece display for serious transport historians.
Flawless / Mint Vintage Condition: This piece is in remarkable, investor-grade condition. There are absolutely no chips, flea bites, cracks, or deep scratches anywhere along the heavy rim, notches, or base. The glass remains brilliant and crystal clear, showing virtually no signs of its historical onboard use. This is a collector-grade example.
Because this item is exceptionally heavy and in flawless condition, it will be double-wrapped in heavy-duty bubble wrap and securely boxed to guarantee it arrives exactly as pictured. Shipped promptly with premium tracking. See less
