An extraordinary, beautifully paired matching set of two separate mid-century Balinese modernist sculptures presenting an elegant generational narrative of a mother and daughter in traditional ceremonial attire [user, Other Claims]. Sourced independently but carved by the same master studio workshop hand, this synchronized pair displays remarkable stylistic harmony across their traditional draped sarongs, intricate waist filigree, and layered shoulder sashes. The younger lady stands a dramatic 24 inches tall with a 3½-inch width, while the mother figure measures a substantial 23¾ inches tall with a robust 4-inch base footprint [user].
Each standalone figure is masterfully chiseled from a solid block of premium tropical Suar wood, exhibiting a rich, uniform honey-caramel heartwood complexion that beautifully showcases the natural growth rings looping across their forms. The head structures are beautifully detailed, featuring elongated, meditative facial features and towering, flared floral crowns that flow into deeply incised strands of hair cascading down their backs. The reverse profile of the mother sculpture highlights a highly unique, completely natural bark ingrowth indentation—an organic characteristic native to the tree's living history before carving commenced [user, Other Claims]. The underside of each base features traditional hand-gouged texturing and holds the vintage stamped provenance mark "BALI." [user] Hand-conditioned to a pristine, glass-smooth liquid-satin finish that pops vibrantly under gallery lights, this heirloom-grade pair stands with superb structural stability, free of any open cracks or structural flaws [user, Other Claims]. A truly rare decorative arrangement that offers an elite focal statement for high-end shelf vignettes, executive mantles, or premium interior spaces.
Physical Dimensions (Two Separate Masterpieces Included)
• The Daughter (Younger Lady): 24" Height x 3 ½" Width x 5" Depth [user]
• The Mother: 23 ¾" Height x 4" Width x 3 ¼" Depth [user]
Joint Condition Report
Excellent Vintage Condition. This substantial two-piece mid-century collection stands in exceptional gallery condition, having been meticulously hand-conditioned on the workbench. The premium tropical Suar wood cells are entirely stable and unified, showing an exquisite satin luster. The 24-inch daughter figure is completely pristine and flawless [user]. The 23¾-inch mother figure features a minor, localized internal grain separation on the lower base footprint that measures roughly a quarter-inch deep; this check is entirely historic, structurally stabilized, and does not alter the vertical balance or face of the piece [user]. A small, natural growth indentation is present on the lower reverse shoulder area, which is entirely native to the original timber stock [user]. Both bases feature excellent 90-degree stability, and the older woman has an intact vintage lable.
