The work has a very elegant appearance and corresponds in type to the popular French salon sculpture of the late 19th century. Ernest Rancoulet was a French sculptor active at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, known primarily for his bronze figurative sculptures, allegorical themes, female figures, mythological scenes and decorative sculptures intended for representative interiors. In professional and commercial circles, he is often cited as an author associated with French neoclassical and salon bronze work; however, there are differences in the sources regarding his life dates, most often 1842–1918 or 1870–1915. This model bears the Rancoulet signature on the plinth and stands out in particular for the delicate workmanship of the face, hairstyle and drapery. A beautiful warm patina highlights the modeling of the surface and supports the decorative character of the entire composition. The statue is mounted on a turned wooden base, which elegantly complements the whole. The condition is very good, with natural minor traces of age and use consistent with age. The patina is impressive and authentic. Dimensions: height 51 cm, diameter 20 cm See less
