This bronze sculpture depicts Joan of Arc standing, in a posture that is at once devoted, inspired, and resolutely turned towards the heavens.
She wears a long dress with rolled-up sleeves, a symbol of labor. Her right arm is raised, as if answering a divine call or communicating with a higher power.
Her face is turned towards the heavens, expressing spiritual elevation or unwavering faith.
Beside her stands a lamb, delicately sculpted with a realistic texture, which reinforces the pastoral, humble, and sacred dimension of the scene: it evokes purity, sacrifice, and divine calling.
This sculpture blends heroism, humility, and mysticism in a balanced and expressive composition.
Étienne Watrin (–1915) was a French sculptor active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Known for his figurative bronzes and chryselephantine sculptures, he is distinguished by the refinement and academic elegance of his works.
