This type of furniture is known in Dutch as kussenkast and in German as Kissenschrank. The name comes from the characteristic plastically protruding door panels, the shape of which resembles pillows. The monumental two-door cabinet impresses with its perfectly balanced architectural composition. The front and side surfaces are divided by distinctively profiled cassettes, which are complemented by dark decorative moldings. The doors are framed by pilasters topped with richly carved capitals. The cabinet is topped by a massive, multi-tiered crown cornice. An exceptional detail is the central figurative carving with a putto and an eagle, surrounded by plant tendrils, flowers and fruits. The precisely executed carving decor underlines the high level of craftsmanship and artistry of this piece. Behind the pair of doors is a spacious interior divided by two shelves. The lower part hides a wide drawer, the front of which is optically divided into two separate fields. An iron lock with a forged key has also been preserved. The entire body rests on massive spherical legs typical of Baroque furniture of this period. The cabinet stands out for its beautiful wood grain, deep honey-brown shade and contrast of dark profiled elements. Thanks to its castle provenance, age, monumental dimensions and rich carving, it represents a top example of European Baroque furniture. This is a truly exceptional solitaire designed for a castle or historical interior, a representative hall, gallery or important private collection. The entire cabinet can be dismantled into parts - easy to move - assembly and doweling takes about half an hour. Date: end of the 17th century. Provenance: castle furniture. Dimensions: height 212 cm, width 215 cm, depth 83.5 cm See less
