A true classic of bauhaus design. The "hfs 2" television cabinet is a design by professor herbert hirche, a long-time collaborator of mies van der rohe, for the braun company. It perfectly embodies the minimalist design philosophy of the bauhaus and is an extremely rare collector's item, now found in important museums such as the pinakothek der moderne in munich and the museum für angewandte kunst in frankfurt. Hirche revolutionized the bulky tv design of the 1950s by transforming the television into an elegant, homely piece of furniture. The two delicate folding doors allow the screen to be completely concealed (and locked) when not in use.
the cabinet and doors are made of elm-veneered chipboard. The screen and speakers are seamlessly integrated, and the white controls provide a beautiful contrast to the wood. The unit rests on the characteristic square steel tube frame.
the cabinet and doors have been sanded and finished with a matte lacquer. The original television technology remains intact. It turns on, the volume is adjustable, and a white line appears on the screen. The hinges and lock/key are original and function perfectly. The perforated back panel is intact.
