Maison Lecan presents this solid oak monastery table, made around 1900. It measures 3.50 m long and only 77 cm deep. Its long, slender silhouette is rarely seen for sale in these dimensions.
Its key feature is the height under the apron. There is no frame beneath the tabletop, only two supports at the ends. This provides 70 cm of clearance along its entire length, which is very rare for a table of this period. It allows for comfortable seating, even with armchairs.
The construction is that of traditional monastery tables. Two thick oak legs are joined and pegged onto shaped feet. A long lower stretcher connects them, with through tenons secured by oak keys. The system is demountable, which facilitates transport. The wide plank tabletop rests on pegged supports.
The table retains its original patina. The oak has taken on a warm honey color, more pronounced on the legs and glides. A few spots are visible on the tabletop; these are part of the patina.
It comfortably seats 10 to 12 people. with its clean lines and shallow depth, it fits naturally into an architect-designed interior or a modernist setting, whether used as a dining table or a large work table.
Dimensions: Length 350 cm, Depth 77 cm, Height 75 cm / Height under the apron: 70 cm
