Standing no less than 64 cm (25.2 in.) tall, this sculptural lamp has a commanding presence and is a striking example of late 1960s Italian lighting design. The lamp features a cast aluminium base, which has been professionally resprayed, combined with its distinctive curved and polished aluminium shade. The sweeping, almost architectural form changes beautifully depending on the viewing angle, while the polished surface reflects both light and its surroundings. The shade houses two E27 lamp holders, complemented by a fluorescent tube positioned at the rear. This unusual combination produces a wonderful layered lighting effect, with direct illumination from the shade and an atmospheric glow from behind. The lamp is engraved “Stilnovo Italy” at the top and remains in very beautiful vintage condition, with only minor signs of age and use. A rare, large-scale and highly decorative piece of Italian Space Age and Mid-Century Modern design, equally impressive illuminated or simply displayed as a sculptural object.
