An exceptional large ebonized wood wall mirror, Italy, late 19th century.
The frame features stepped profiles of considerable depth, entirely crafted with dense guilloche wave moldings that run uninterrupted along all four sides. The protruding blocks at the corners lend depth and an architectural feel. The ebonized finish is deep and matte, capturing light only on the reliefs. A thin gold border surrounds the mirror, the only warm touch amidst the black.
The original period beveled mirror remains, with characteristic oxidation and the orange tint on the back confirming its date. Mounted on the original wooden panel.
Sturdy structure, ready to hang.
A frame of this size, with such high-quality guilloche workmanship, is rare to find.
