An authentic pair of turn of the century antique bentwood side chairs manufactured by the prestigious Austro-Hungarian firm Jacob & Josef Kohn (Vienna, Austria). Historically designated as the iconic No. 14 "Vienna Café" (Bistro) chair, this design relies on masterful wood-bending techniques that became a staple of global Art Nouveau and cafe culture.
The Labels:
Highly prized by furniture historians and antique enthusiasts, these chairs retain important historical evidence of their origin on their undersides:
• Chair 1: Proudly retains its rare, original bilingual paper export label. The text is legible and details J. & J. Kohn’s iconic international showroom branches active prior to World War I, including New York (110/112 W. 27th Street), Chicago (1414/1416 Wabash Avenue), and Toronto (189/191 Queen Street East).
• Chair 2: Features the partial remnants and backing of the matching original paper export label, anchoring it in time and factory production.
Condition & Structural Integrity:
These chairs have been carefully maintained over their 110+ year life. The frames have been gently cleaned and conditioned to bring forward the gorgeous, honey-brown warmth of the original finish without disturbing the fragile paper remnants underneath.
There is a visible age crack along the upper rim of one circular seat frame near the backrest joint. However, the chairs remain completely rigid and rock-solid. Because the heavy bentwood stabilizing ring on the underside is perfectly intact and tightly fastened, the structural integrity is entirely uncompromised. Both chairs are structurally dependable and robust enough for daily utilitarian use.

The chair features a beautiful, authentic aged patina throughout. There is a visible surface grain separation/age crack on the top rear veneer of the seat ring where the backrest joins (see detailed photos). Crucially, this appears cosmetic; as there is a thick, continuous bentwood structural support hoop underneath. Chair remains entirely solid, stable, and completely intact. The chair is firm, sturdy, and ready for use. less
