An elegant and substantial pair of early 20th-century neoclassical marble pedestals, or gaines, featuring richly veined burgundy-red marble contrasted with white marble.
Each pedestal displays a gracefully tapered architectural form, with recessed white marble panels framed in deep reddish-brown marble. The square tops feature inset white marble surfaces surrounded by contrasting stone borders, while the substantial stepped bases terminate in decorative shaped feet.
The restrained classical design recalls French decorative arts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly the enduring influence of the Napoleon III aesthetic.
Well suited for displaying bronze sculptures, marble busts, decorative urns, or other objects of art, these pedestals would make an elegant addition to a traditional or contemporary interior.
Offered as a matching pair, with attractive natural marble veining and a pleasing architectural presence.
