Large-scale sculpture representing two raised and close-set right hands, based on the famous work La Cathédrale, conceived by Auguste Rodin in 1908. The two hands symbolically belong to different figures and delimit a space between them similar to the arch of a Gothic cathedral. The composition demonstrates Rodin's interest in the expressive possibilities of hands and in empty space as an integral part of sculpture. Later reduction cast in bronze, with a brown patina and partially polished finish. It bears the reproduced signature “A. Rodin” and a circular edition or casting mark on the base. Due to its characteristics, dimensions, and mark, it is probably an ars mundi edition – Edition Max Büchner, Germany. Model artist: Auguste Rodin (1840–1917). Title: La Cathédrale / The Cathedral.
