Large mirror with three original 17th-century engravings by nicolas de larmessin - charles emmanuel ii of savoy, maria francisca of savoy, queen of portugal, and juan domingo de zúñiga - paris, 1665–1687. Large decorative mirror in painted wood in a white/cream tone, with a deliberately or naturally worn surface, revealing various areas of the wood and old layers of finish. The structure, of vertical rectangular shape, has in the lower half a wide mirror plate, framed by simple moldings, and in the upper part a horizontal compartment containing three portraits engraved in copper, with a burin, from the 17th century, mounted side by side and protected by glass. The three prints belong to the body of work of the celebrated french engraver nicolas de larmessin (1632–1694), a member of an important parisian family of engravers and portrait publishers. The name appears in bibliographies as both nicolas i de larmessin and nicolas ii de larmessin, depending on the genealogical system used by different museums and catalogs. The engravings were produced in paris and are associated with the publisher pierre bertrand, located at rue saint-jacques, à la pomme d'or, près saint-séverin, an editorial address that appears on copies of this series.
