Author: unidentified - monogram on the reverse. Suggested title: Dancers Under the Light. Date: 2006. Technique: mixed media on canvas, with paint, modeling paste and textured reliefs. Signature: undeciphered monogram and date “2006” on the reverse. Dimensions: 80 × 60 cm. Frame: unframed. Country of origin: undetermined. Period: after 2000. Style: Contemporary. Complementary influence: figurative expressionism. Theme: dance; dancers; stage; movement. Contemporary composition with a vertical orientation, representing two stylized female figures, possibly dancers, placed in the center and symmetrically juxtaposed. The figures appear back to back, with arched bodies, one leg raised and arms forming similar choreographic gestures. Dark silhouettes stand out against a large oval white and bluish area, resembling a spotlight, portal, or scenic opening. In the lower zone, a succession of vertical and organic forms can be interpreted as raised hands of an audience, architectural elements, or abstract forms emerging from the ground. Around the central zone, a dark and undefined environment develops, composed of elongated structures that suggest trees, curtains, or spectral figures. The composition thus allows for a simultaneously theatrical and symbolic reading: the dancers seem to perform in a space between stage, forest, and imaginary scenery. The surface has a strong material component. Thick layers of paint and modeling paste were applied, worked with incisions, scrapes, drips, and reliefs. An almost monochromatic palette of white, gray, petrol blue, black, and small brown accents predominates, reinforcing a nocturnal, introspective, and somewhat dreamlike atmosphere. Condition - Overall good condition, cracked and fissured in thicker areas; surface stains and dirt; no frame; no visible tears in the canvas. See less
