This charming pair of vintage cloisonne enamel guardian lions, or Foo Dogs, brings a touch of traditional elegance to any interior. Each figure is finely crafted with intricate wirework separating enamel cells on a turquoise ground, featuring a dense pattern of scrolling floral and foliate motifs in shades of red, pink, blue, and white. The lions feature expressive faces with open mouths, gilded ears, and gilded claws, and are adorned with decorative red and blue saddle blankets featuring cross motifs. The undersides bear a raised, square seal mark containing the characters "乾隆年製" (Made in the Qianlong Period). In traditional culture, these lions are symbols of protection, power, and prosperity. This pair makes a distinguished addition to a collection of cloisonne or Asian decorative arts.
