The necklace incorporates an unusually varied assortment of individually formed glass beads in luminous and irridescent shades of cobalt blue, aqua, turquoise, emerald-green and purple. Oval, rounded, elongated, flattened and textured forms create a wonderfully collected quality, while several beads display metallic foil and sparkling aventurina-like effects characteristic of traditional Venetian glassmaking techniques.

Rather than a conventional continuous strand of beads, the glass elements are individually incorporated at intervals along the fine chain, allowing each bead to stand on its own. The warm coppery metal provides a beautiful contrast to the cool jewel-toned glass.

At an exceptionally long 57 inches, the necklace is designed as a true open-ended lariat with no clasp. It can be worn long and loose, wrapped around the neck, crossed, looped or tied in a variety of configurations.

The necklace is unsigned, and the maker and place of assembly are unknown. The art-glass beads are attributed to Venetian/Murano production based on their handmade forms, metallic inclusions and decorative glass techniques.
